The McSpadden Flying Zucchini Society is a playful yet impactful force in East Vancouver, powered by zucchini-fueled creativity and a deep love of community.

Founded in 2020 by a small group of East Van residents (the same fine folks who have brought you the annual McSpadden County Fair), the McSpadden Flying Zucchini Society is setting its sights on new and exciting ways to connect and celebrate our amazing community. The MFZS has made its mark through joyful, sustainable, and inclusive events.

From annual community Easter hunts to fundraising for and managing the McSpadden Little Free Pantry, and of course, organizing the iconic McSpadden County Fair, the society brings people together in imaginative ways. Entirely volunteer-run, the MFZS is driven by a mission to create connection and engagement through education, mutual aid, and celebration. Whether you come for the zucchinis or stay for the community spirit, you’re always welcome!

Our Goals are simple…

To promote community development through education, entertainment, and support of local business.

To support and promote urban agriculture and sustainable healthy living.

To be inclusive of diverse communities, and provide accessibility for all.

To provide family focused activities and entertainment.

To revitalize the traditions of county fairs and blend them with the diversity of urban living.

The team behind the McSpadden Flying Zucchini Society (MFZS) has been working hard for the East Vancouver community since 2016, when they launched the first-ever McSpadden County Fair. Energized by the enthusiastic response from neighbors, they went on to host more community events in the years that followed.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the MFZS recognized a growing need for food security support. In response, they created the Little Free Pantry to help ease the burden for those facing food insecurity. Realizing they could expand their impact even further, the team decided to formalize their efforts and officially become a society. This move allowed them to broaden their scope, organize more events, and better serve the community.
